How did Angel Food Block get its name? I was pondering this very question while baking this Angel Food Block (Sheet Cake) version a couple of days ago. Wikipedia states; Angel Nutrient Cake "is so named considering of its airy lightness that was said to exist the "nutrient of the angels".

Well, yous run into, some angels were having a birthday party and needed a birthday cake. It couldn't exist just whatever old cake; it had to be lighter than air just like they are. They had no way of baking a block, then decided to practice what all expert angels don't do – they came to world and stole the only altogether cake they could conduct. Thus, the name Affections Food Cake was bestowed. It should really be called Angel Food Birthday Cake.

  • For the Cake:
  • 2 i/two cups saccharide
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 i/2 cups egg whites 12-sixteen (use fresh egg whites only)
  • 1 teaspoon foam of tartar
  • i teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice

  • For the Lemon-Cream Cheese Frosting:
  • 1 1/2 8-oz. packages foam cheese, softened
  • i/4 loving cup butter softened
  • 1/iv cup fresh lemon juice
  • 1 16-oz. packet powdered sugar
  • 2 teaspoons lemon zest

  1. For the Cake:

  2. Preheat oven to 375F. Position the oven rack one/3 from the bottom of the oven.

  3. Line a 13 x 9-inch pan with aluminum foil – assuasive two" overlap over the sides of the pan. Practice Non grease the pan or the foil.

  4. Sift together saccharide, flour & salt. Set aside.

  5. With an electrical mixer, trounce egg white & cream of tartar on high until strong peaks form.

  6. Slowly, fold in the sugar/flour mixture, i/3 cup at a time. Do not overmix – fold simply until just blended after each addition.

  7. Carefully, fold in vanilla and lemon juice.

  8. Gently spoon concoction into prepared pan. Note – batter will reach to the top or almost to the superlative of the pan.

  9. Identify the pan in the preheated 375F oven.

  10. Broil thirty-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean.

  11. Remove the cake from the oven and turn over and onto a very lightly floured (make clean) textile or onto a wire cooling rack that has been sprayed with cooking oil.

  12. Allow the block cool with the pan in place until completely cooled – approximately ane hour.

  13. Once cake has cooled, remove the pan and peel off the foil.

  14. Spread Lemon-Cream Cheese Frosting over the entire cake or cut the block into pieces then frost.

  15. Garnish with Holly Cupcake Decorations.

  18. For the Lemon-Foam Cheese Frosting:

  19. Using a stand up-mixer, beat cream cheese & butter at medium speed until flossy and low-cal.

  20. Add lemon juice and beat just until composite.

  21. Gradually add powdered sugar on low speed merely until blended then stir in lemon zest.

This cake tin exist baked in an ungreased angel food block pan - xxx-35 minutes.
or...
in 3 ungreased nine-inch round pans - fifteen-18 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the heart comes out clean.
